Traffic Barriers
Traffic barriers are safety structures designed to control, redirect or stop not just road traffic, but also pedestrians for many different reasons. The most common areas traffic barriers are used is car parks, or train crossings. The barriers are there to enhance road safety, protect pedestrians and minimise damage during accidents or hazardous situations.ย
Permanent barriers are usually made of steel and are typically installed along highways and bridges. This prevents vehicles from crossing onto oncoming traffic. Temporary barriers are usually made of plastic or collapsible metal fences, and are often found at public events for crowd control and at construction sites as a safety guide around the work zone.
Barriers found at car parks and toll booths are automatic barriers which use sensors to monitor and control traffic flow. This usually enforces fees, assisting with security and reducing unauthorized usage in private car parks. Using the modern technology available, these automatic barriers often have licence plate recognition and contactless ticket machines in place. The barriers will only lift once all fees have been paid and also when it is safe to do so with the oncoming traffic flow.
By using a beacon on top of these barriers, it provides a clear instruction to the end user when to stop and wait and when it is safe to proceed.
