A little about Beacon Applications

Beacon lights and sounders are used where a visual or audible warning signal is needed to alert, instruct or to inform people. They are used in many different industries/sectors and on many different applications.

Here we look at typical application usage in the most common industries:

⚑ Industrial & Automation

In this area you will commonly see tower lights in use, they are perfect for a quick indication on machinery in use to alert Red for a fault, Amber for help required, Green for running.

Examples of applications in this sector include:

  • 🏭 Machine status indication.
  • 🚨 Process control alerts.
  • πŸš₯ Assembly line signalling.
  • 🌑️ Over-temperature/over-pressure warnings.

⚑ Traffic Management

This is a very wide area, from road traffic management to loading bays and barriers. You will see on the roads Red/Amber/Green traffic light systems, lights at level crossings, to lights on car park barriers.

Examples of applications in this sector include:

  • 🚦 Road traffic management & pedestrian crossing systems.
  • πŸš› Loading bay signal systems.
  • 🚧 Barrier/gate entry warnings.
  • πŸš‘ Emergency vehicles.

⚑ Warehousing

In warehousing, you tend to find a xenon flash beacon as they have a sharp, clear, burst of warning light and can be visible for some distance.

Examples of applications in this sector include:

  • πŸš› Fork lift truck.
  • 🚨 Alarm systems for fire and intruder.
  • ⚠️ Evacuation signal.
  • 🫟 Spillage warning.

⚑ Public Buildings

In public buildings such as hospitals, schools, shopping centres, airports etc, you will often see lights above doors, indicating occupied/free, and hear audible signalling.

Examples of applications in this sector are much the same as within the warehousing sector, however it is on a bigger scale:

  • 🏫 Electronic bells in schools for break signalling.
  • πŸš₯ Lights above doors indicating vacant/occupied.
  • πŸ”₯ Fire alarm systems.
  • 🚨 Evacuation signal.

⚑ Harsh & Hazardous Environments

As these areas can be very dangerous, warning lights and signals need to be used for the safety of anyone in the area.

Examples of applications include:

  • πŸ’₯ Explosive areas i.e. oil refineries.
  • 🌊 Offshore operations.
  • ⛏️ Mining operations.
  • βš“οΈ Ship/marine hazards i.e. bad weather, engine room hazards.
